ICT In Society

This is a five-week project in which you are going to write a report about the ways in which ICT affects our society.

The report will be word processed and it is up to you how it will be structured. The title is: ICT and its effects on society. You should consider including relevant images.

The work must be in your own words - you cannot simply copy and paste. You can quote people or websites if it is helpful.

The following must be included in your report:

An introduction that discusses what you have learned in ICT, including the benefits of these tools

A look at how ICT is used in the wider world.
This section should include actual examples of how computers and technology are used in the areas of:

  • E-commerce (online shopping)
  • Manufacturing (e.g. CAD & CAM)
  • Education (e.g. encyclopedias, the internet)
  • Business communication (e.g. e-mail & video conferencing)
  • Crime (e.g. fraud & piracy)

Each of the above areas must be considered for a level 7. For each of the above areas, you need to look at the benefits that computers can bring and also the disadvantages. A level 6 piece of work should cover at least three of the above topics. Each section should take half a page to a page.

A level 8 student needs to write a final section called "The wider impact of ICT" and this needs to consider 3 areas:

  • Social: what impact does ICT have on the way we as humans interact with each other?
  • Economic: how does ICT help businesses and what costs can it lead to?
  • Moral & ethical: What impacts is ICT having on human behaviour?
