Lesson 2 - Basic Word Processing
You have probably used a word processor for typing documents
before. If not, don't worry as you will pick it up very quickly.
We are going to use Microsoft Word as a tool for presenting
documents and it is important that you can use its main features.
These include:
- Formatting text (e.g. changing the font and size)
- Cutting, copying and pasting text.
- Using bullet points or numbers.
- Inserting a picture such as clipart.
- Using textboxes to control the layout of your document.
- Adding shapes.
In this lesson, you will download a document to your user area
and then use Word to improve its presentation.
To download the document, you need to right-click on
the link below using your right mouse button.
Choose Save Target As from the menu and then
save it to your drive (it should have your username in the drive
list).
Your teacher will give you a copy of the final document. You
can see a version of it by clicking on the link below.
Instructions
- The document should be in portrait orientation, not landscape
(File... Page Setup)
- The title should be centred on the page (use the centre button
on the toolbar). It should be Arial Black, size 26
- The main part of the text should be Arial size 14. The alignment
should be aligned to the left of the page
- The first rule should be in bold
- Leave a line between different points.
- The points after 'Do not do any of the following' should
be a list using bullet points. The last item on the list is
'Download

- The page should have a border (Format... Borders and Shading)
- You should insert a picture of a computer from clipart into
your work (Insert... Picture... Clipart) and put
it at the bottom of the page.
- Cut the line that begins 'Save your
work often' and paste it at the bottom of the page
- Create a textbox that says 'These are very important rules'
and place it somewhere sensible on your page. (Insert...
Textbox). Make sure the text is big enough to be clearly
visible
- Check your document for any errors of spelling or grammar.
- When you have finished, make sure you have put your name
at the top of the document (you can use View... Header and Footer)
and then print a copy.
Show the work to your teacher who will advise you what to do
