If you want to obtain between 20-28 marks, you must create your own spreadsheet model to represent a business situation and help the manager solve problems. Look at the level 1 payroll model for some ideas. The model must follow the rules given below:

  • It cannot be a payroll model or be for a florists or video store
  • It must have at least 6 rows and 6 columns
  • It must contain at least 2 complex features (see below) that have been sensibly used

Complex Features

Functions - a formula that is more complex than basic arithmetic or SUM. Examples include COUNT, COUNTIF, SUMIF, VLOOKUP, MAX. You can look these functions up in Excel help to get a better idea of what they do

  • Conditional formatting
  • Absolute cell referencing (the dollar signs) used appropriately
  • Cell or worksheet protection
  • Validation of data entry
  • A macro
  • The graphical display of data

The first stage is to plan out your model, possibly building a prototype, and asking your teacher to check you are on the right approach.

The Write-Up

Right-click and download this write-up template and carry out the instructions on it carefully and answer all questions as fully and correctly as possible. Make sure you save this file with a sensible name and in a folder where it is unlikely to be lost.
